A New Kind Of President

If I were President.

If I were President of these United States I would probably be assassinated before I could even take office. I know I would not be a favored participant in the governmental structure.
There are just too many things in government practice that I don’t understand and see no need for. I would fight to have them changed.
For one, I would like to know why it takes so much money to be elected and why do the candidates not use their own money.
Each candidate has fund raisers and expensive dinners to raise money for their campaign. I realize it takes money to visit different states trying to get votes but it doesn’t need to cost that much.
Some candidates raise $40, $50, $60 million and much more. What on earth can cost that much?
What happens to any excess that isn’t spent before the election takes place? Is it simply added to the pockets of the candidate?
If I were elected President a hammer would only cost $10. Not $600. And no toilet seat is worth a $1,000. Not even if it is solid gold. Some government official says I need and some private party supplies and submits a highly exaggerated bill. Another official simply signs for it without even looking at what is presented which is a gross misuse of taxpayers money..
If I were President that kind of crap would definitely stop. If they can’t do the job right they can be replaced. Even the average taxpayer can spot this kind of discrepancy.
Another thing I would work on is a ceiling on official wages. There would be no more voting themselves a raise whenever they want it. That even includes the President himself.
The Senate, Congress and all other higher officials are already way overpaid. They make (notice I said make, not earn) more money in one year than most of the people they represent earn in an entire lifetime.
If I could find a way I would have the wages of all government officials reduced. Those officials receive hundreds of thousands, if not millions per year in wages and several more million each year in perks. Special vehicles for travel with fuel paid for by the taxpayer. Special lodging in the finest locations, again paid for by the taxpayer.
If I could not find a way to reduce wages I would do my best to find a way to force large donations to subsidize some of the programs the senator and congressmen bring to a vote. If it is worth it to them to bring it to a voting public then they should be willing to help subsidize it with a substantial donation from their own pocket.
The vote is always dumped on the taxpayer to foot the expense and the officials brag about what they have accomplished.
I would also do my best to bring a bill to the voting public that would limit the amount of time any government official could be in office. No official should think their position is their birthright. They should be governed by the same rules as the President. They should not be allowed to live out their lives in their position. All government seats should be limited to two terms (2) of four (4) years only.
If they know they may not be voted in again they might see a need for them to perform in the interest of the public. If they perform well then they could have a second 4 year term. If not, move over and let someone else give it a try. Maybe the next person will do a better and more complete job.
Another thing I would work on would be the tax structure. It has been in need of change for a long time and no one has even considered it. The only consideration it has received is how to get the taxpayer to pay more.
I believe we need an even tax platform. No more catering to the rich. I would do whatever it takes to implement a set percentage tax. With a set tax there would be no more loopholes for the rich. Everyone would pay the same tax. That is everyone from the President down to the garbage collector. Anyone and everyone who earns a dollar would pay a 4 or 5 percent tax on each dollar earned.
If you earn a hundred dollars you would pay 4 or 5 dollars to tax. If you earn a hundred million dollars you would pay 4 or 5 million dollars to tax. With everyone paying the same tax the government would have more than enough money to fund our national security, provide individual insurance and still maintain the social security system and whatever else needs to be done. Our nation would have enough money coming in to begin to see the end of the national debt.
As for war, I don’t feel that we should place ourselves in the position of overall protector of the world. We should defend our country from both terrorists and illegal immigrants. Let the rest of the world learn to protect themselves. If they need our help, ASK for if. Once we have done our part, LEAVE.
I could go on and on but I think you get the picture.
If you don’t like what I have written here then elect me to the Presidency and as I said before someone will shoot my ragged ass before I can change what is considered by some to be a good thing.
